Are you kidding? This is nothing. Hang out on a college football forum and you'll see some really entertaining commentary. Too bad AL.com no longer hosts the Alabama & Auburn football forums. Incendiary posts were only the beginning, lol.
I don't have a "one-size-fits-all" approach to betting while I'm playing craps. Instead, I take a flexible approach. My betting varies based upon the shooter and the general table conditions, as well as how my session has been going. I've been a regular at Rivers Casino since it opened in July 2011. Black card (top tier) for much of the time, so I know the dealers and many of the regular craps players at the tables. What I'm very interested in are shooters who have had longer (20+) rolls and/or hit the All All (or Fire Bet) on multiple occasions in the past while I've been at the table. Obviously there is no guarantee they will have that same level of success the next time they shoot the dice. Often they don't, as each session is different. That being said, I'm looking for several such players at a table because (anecdotally) I believe they have higher potential upside. Hopefully at least one of us will have a very good roll at some point. When one of us is the shooter, I will bet more from the start and press more aggressively. Sometimes it works very well, other times not so well. On the other hand, if I see several players who tend to slow down the game (e.g., multiple $1 hop bettors, repeatedly turning bets off/on, arguing about missing bets) or have a tendency to make late bets/be disruptive, or a very well funded dark side bettor, I will find another table. In general, I prefer playing on $25 tables because it eliminates most of the hop bettors. Also, at Rivers Casino, the $25 tables are usually the shorter ones (12'). The 14' tables are typically $10 & $15 minimum, unless it's really crowded. My friend throws a lot of 4s and/or 10s when he's shooting well. I will press each 4 & 10 hit when he's the shooter (Buy $25, $50, $100, $200, $25 Put w/$400 odds, etc.). Lately he's been throwing 8s, so I'll bet a $60 Place 8 and go from there if it isn't the point. I've played a lot of craps sessions at the same table with him. When he's on, he has crazy good rolls. And when he's off, it's a PSO or very short roll. I can live with those extremes when the upside -- when it happens -- is really, really good.
My main play when I am shooting is betting the 4 & 10 w hardway.I will take the first hit before begining to press.q Also I like to play $36 action (6&8) regress to $12 on first hit. I will also play it on random players. If a table is cold I can play a don't game laying against an outside number to establish my point.I will not fight the shooter. Back to shooting.I will buy in to tables not with many players or buy into a populated one if I can find a good spot and the dice are near. Then leave after I shoot. Lots of options.
Our play is pretty similar. What are the odds at Rivers? Do they have the ATS? The disruptions to the game with a bunch of people reloading the ATS after a natural is part of the reason I don't play tables anymore if a bubble is available. Tables at home are usually $10 with 10X odds so I start out with $10 pass and $50 cheese. $135 across and then continuous come bets. $25 or $30 odds on the first 4 hits, then press aggressively. Vig is up front here. Like you said, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. There's a lot of dickwad players here who slow down the game. Only person who can slow me down on the single seat bubble is the host. Since I have a black+ card, she always shows up and causes a seven out if I don't see her coming and wait.
Loving RR and MSS's craps play styles! Wish I had some disposable income to get in there and try out the strategies.
Rivers Casino (Des Plaines, IL) offers a $25K table limit and 100x odds on its 5 craps tables (2 x 12', 3 x 14'). Vig on the Buy 4/10 is upfront, up to $39 for the initial $1 ($50 Buy 4/10 is $2; $100 Buy 4/10 is $5 vig). All Tall Small Bonus Bet is $0 to $100 per bet in increments of $5. So a bettor can make a $5/$10/$0 Bonus Bet (e.g., don't have to bet all of the them or the same amount). When the ATS hits, the payout is 34 to 1 on the All Small & All Tall and 175 to 1 on the All All. Winning ATS bets are paid out immediately after they hit and bettors can return on the All Tall & All Small (but *not* the All All unless a subsequent come out 7 knocks out the ATS bets). The Fire Bet is $1 to $5. When the Fire Bet hits, the payout is 25 for 1 (4 unique points made), 250 for 1 (5 unique points made), and 1000 for 1 (6 unique points made). Winning Fire Bets are paid out after the roll ends. The crew at Rivers Casino is pretty good at reloading the ATS bets -- once the bets are received from the players. Like all businesses, Rivers lost a few experienced employees while it was shut down in 2020 so the casino is training new table games dealers at the moment. Understandably, they're slower at their job, which has its pros and cons. The veteran dealers are very good at dealing craps. No bubble craps at Rivers Casino. Smoke-free, too (except in outside designated areas). Currently, masks are required for everyone. You should head out this way sometime.
I'll have to do that some time. It'll be a few months. Currently deep into clearing out a factory to be repurposed and the company I'm working with is in negotiations to buy another factory in Burlington. If that happens I'll have to check out Catfish Bend. Never been there yet.
I stopped by Catfish Bend Casino (Burlington, IA) in 2007 but haven't been back since. Unfortunately, it's not conveniently located near an interstate highway, nor is it on the short route to Omaha/Council Bluffs when I road trip; the 3 casinos in the Quad Cities are much better situated from my perspective. Burlington is a good place for railfanning, though, so I'll probably make a road trip there at some point in the future. Par-A-Dice Hotel Casino (Peoria, IL) isn't too far from Burlington, @100 miles. It's part of Boyd Gaming, so if you already have a BConnected player's card, you're good to go.
You have indicated in the past you shoot 4s & 10s, so the betting makes good sense. IMO, a $15 Place 4/10 is one of the better craps wagers. 1st hit, buy for $25 ($16 back, bet is fully paid for with $1 profit). I don't bet hardways aggressively until I have $25+ on the number (excluding $1 or $2 HW bet, which is then parlayed on a hit). Of course, if there seems to be quite a few of them being rolled, gotta give it a shot and hope they continue to appear.
RR Here is a play off the $15 when you are up and playing aggressively. First hit go to $40. Second go to $100 .Third it collect and you even have a regressive option go down to original $15 or down to $50.or stay at $100.
That certainly works (except the regression part -- for me). If I'm up and the table is good, I'll start with $25 Buy 4 then press to $75 (also drop $3 vig) on the first hit, then press to $100 on the 2nd hit (and bank $150 - $25 - $5 vig = $120). If I'm having a really good night, I'll press to $150 or $200 on the 2nd hit and go from there. It's good to be up and at a hot table -- really opens thing up.
Fun when the 4 & 10 are hitting.Hardways are exciting .I agree with you I hate the hop bet.Slows down the table . Also these shooters taking so much time to shoot.
Yup, when 4s & 10s are being rolled, it can be fun times. When an experienced dealer has trouble remembering all of the $1 one roll bets a single player makes, what a nightmare. That's why I almost never play at $10 tables at Rivers Casino. I'm all for shooters being comfortable before releasing the dice, but when there is a "rain delay" at the table, that's way too long.
Nice thought, Dave…but I make no correlation. That’s not an indictment of my tennis skills, nor an indictment of anyone who attempts to influence dice. It’s simply my belief that ultimately craps is a random game. I have just as much confidence (or lack of) with the 12 players I see at the craps table when I walk up. All shapes and sizes. Setters, chuckers, big bettors or small bettors. I’m not picky. I’ll bet on all of them knowing full well anyone of them could pull off a 50 roll. Anyone can have a good roll and I’d kick myself silly if I opted out of chunky Chuckerson’s roll because he didn’t “look” good in his form…and he pulled out a 50 roll. To each his own.
