Great music should be shared and enjoyed, which is why I started this thread. I'm sure there are hidden gems out there we haven't heard, might have overlooked, or had forgotten about and hopefully they will be posted to this thread. As for the blues, the genre had a huge influence upon rock music. I suspect a few blues-inspired songs will make it to this thread. Born In Chicago -- The Paul Butterfield Blues Band
Meatloaf was a interesting entertainer I like the tune paradise by the dashboard lights...I don't see a reel to reel in your swag of toys
Three Dog Night probably had more members/lineup changes than hits, lol. I have a few of their songs on various compilation CDs, but never owned one of the group's albums/CDs. Some lineup of the group is currently touring in 2017, I believe.
My picks for Monday, August 28, 2017: Sultans of Swing -- Dire Straits. Before MTV had started (8/1/81) and long before Brothers in Arms was released (5/1/85), this song was the group's breakthrough effort. It showcased Mark Knopfler's finger picking genius, for which he would become reknown. One of my all-time favorite songs. In the City -- The Eagles (Joe Walsh). Note the DJ spinning the record at the beginning of the video, perhaps for our resident analog audiophile Settingcanthurt. Great song, awesome movie (The Warriors). Burning Bridges -- Mike Curb Congregation. From the movie Kelly's Heroes, one of the all-time great films. Many thanks to all of our veterans who have honorably served and those who continue to do so. Madman Across the Water -- Elton John. Goodbye Yellow Brick Road & Rocket Man were too mellow for this group and Crocodile Rock was too happy. Indian Reservation (The Lament of the Cherokee Reservation Indian) -- Paul Revere & The Raiders. Haunting song that barely scratches the surface of the injustice Indian Nations suffered in the name of westward expansion & "progress".
Perhaps Settingcanthurt has one of these lying around the house. Didn't everyone have one in the 80s, when cassettes ruled? Or maybe it was one of these...
My picks for Tuesday, August 29, 2017: East St. Louis Toodle-Oo -- Steely Dan. Great cover of a Duke Ellington song. Baker Street -- Gerry Rafferty. Such a talented artist, but unfortunately the demons won out. Angie -- Rolling Stones. An all-time classic and perhaps my favorite from the band. Misirlou -- Dick Dale. Many artists have covered this traditional Eastern Mediterranean song and Dale's version is the best I have heard.
My picks for Wednesday, August 30, 2017: The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down (Live) -- The Band. Every rock music collection should include a copy of The Last Waltz. Queen of Hearts -- Juice Newton. I know I'm not the only one who likes this song. Call it Love -- Poco. Love this video. The song is pretty good, too.
My pick for Thursday, August 31, 2017: Buckeye Battle Cry / Across the Field -- Ohio State Marching Band (TBDBITL) Go Bucks!! And take Ohio State and the under, as the Buckeyes will have to save a few plays for next week's game against Oklahoma.
Well This is just great. Wonderful stuff coming on here. I am still digging in the boxes of vinyl from the garage sale. I know who Alabama is of course and have heard their music but it is not a band I would have bought. Well someone did. i found four of their LP's in the box. had not heard this before. Enjoy
My picks for Sunday, September 3, 2017: Ain't That a Shame (Live at Budokan) -- Cheap Trick. Excellent cover of a Fats Domino classic. Live at Budokan is another album/CD that should be in every rock music collection. Trapped (Live at Philadelphia) -- Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band. Great cover of a Jimmy Cliff song by The Boss and members of his longtime band (sans Clarence Clemons, RIP). All Along the Watchtower (Live at Justin Herman Plaza) -- U2. No cover can truly do justice to the Jimi Hendrix version, but this one is pretty good. Purple Haze (Live) -- Jimi Hendrix Experience. One of the best ever on the guitar.
Since the 2017 college football season has started, I can't "like" anything about Alabama, unless it's a loss. Thanks for your contributions and keep posting more.
Excellent pick, 777. So glad you picked the video from 9 1/2 Weeks (official) rather than one from The Full Monty.
Thanks for some great music, Walter Becker. RIP. Rikki Don't Lose That Number -- Steely Dan FM -- Steely Dan
