One of the best things about YouTube is the availability of an incredible library of music. I can listen for hours late at night. Below are a few of my favorites. Share yours. Wipeout (Live in Japan) -- The Ventures. Okay, so they didn't write the song (many thanks, Surfaris), but this is the best version of the classic song IMO. Mel Taylor would be on a very short list of the best drummers in the history of rock & roll. Nokie Edwards remains one of the most underappreciated guitarists. Comfortably Numb (Recorded at Live 8) -- Pink Floyd. The very final performance by the classic lineup (Gilmour, Waters, Mason, Wright) came to fruition after 20+ years apart. Sad to think about what could have been... Eurotrash Girl (Live at Crossroads Festival) -- Cracker. One of these days, I'll complete a tour of cities mentioned in the song (Paris, Barcelona, Athens, Turin, Amsterdam, Berlin). I have seen Cracker at several street festivals in Chicago over the years and each time it rained.
A great Wipeout story! If I had a dollar for every time I heard wipeout on the radio back in the day, I could afford my own practice table. But I'd have to get a garage to store it. Great post Random!
Hopefully the musicians (and not just the record company) have made some good money from Wipeout. The song definitely has received a lot of airplay over the years. The original version by The Surfaris is a great song in its own right, but The Ventures one-upped them. They were just better musicians. BTW, I saw Hootie and the Blowfish perform a pretty good cover of Wipeout in Jackson, MS, years ago. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to locate a recording of that one.
Like 12s said neat post like the tunes also I like the original wipe out The Ventures is cool the flip side of wipe out is a fun listen surfer joe this thread could go like 777s photos you might like... I am going to start slow dont laugh but these just are happy watch 60 secs I like the harmonica and bell is that a snare drum and piano its fun https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N__UbVlPjUk Levon Helm short fat fannie https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fdYayWN5dK8
Wow, @yacraps, did you dig up Creeque Alley from a 1960s time capsule? Great call! I haven't heard that song in decades. I don't recall having ever seen it on any compilation CD/album. Levon Helm was a pretty fair musician. Music from Big Pink and/or The Last Waltz should be in every classic rock fan's collection. However, I never followed Helm's career after The Band broke up. As for Petticoat Junction, I offer a few photos I took back in 2014 at Railtown 1897 State Historic Park (Jamestown, CA), which includes the former Sierra Railway (aka, "The Movie Railroad") that served as the setting for numerous shots used in Petticoat Junction.
Continuing with the live music theme: 2004 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony -- Honorees included George Harrison, Prince and Jackson Browne. Not too shabby a class, lol. A few musicians you might have heard of played an awesome version of While My Guitar Gently Weeps. The late Prince was a supremely talented musician -- check out this video. No Matter What -- Badfinger. Okay, this isn't really "live", but nonetheless a great song by arguably the most ill-fated band ever (with apologies to Lynyrd Skynyrd). Never Been Any Reason (Live) -- Head East. An awesome song from a very underrated band. Why isn't video from this concert available? Turn to Stone (Live from 2001) -- Jeff Lynne. ELO's frontman backed by Rosie Vela and other musicians. Yeah, it's officially ELO, but without other key members, so it's like Pink Floyd without Roger Waters...in name only. Still, this is a pretty great version.
Aww the seventies cool tunes...long hair girls in halter tops sometimes we have to do this at crap table listen until at least 3:54 neat part organ and guitar ya
Roller I couldnt help myself but ELO brought it out...this is what the late great Mr Graffstein would tell his base dealer killer song and rythm
You have some great taste in music, yacraps! Somehow, you "knew" my favorite songs from REO Speedwagon (Roll with the Changes, Live) and BTO (Taking Care of Business). Very nice. Also love the ELO song (Don't Bring Me Down), although I can't pick a favorite from that group, as there are way too many great choices. So many great singers/groups who recorded & performed during the 60s & 70s. Many of their songs still hold up very well today.
Today's song pick is very different from what I have previously posted. Every guy has had an eye for the girl next door at some point in his life. Perhaps this song will remind you of someone years ago who might have been the one had circumstances been different. Knock Three Times -- Tony Orlando and Dawn Runner-up is Living Next Door to Alice -- Smokie
Roller nice songs again when knock 3 times first came out I would try to sing it walking to school...the original Alice I loved and when they did it later with smokie made a classic a golden classic...these guy are a riot would try to sing this along with knock it was bad
LOL..thats so true a lot of songs could seem appropriate for today I like the band and there songs mighty quinn was a neat one

We were missing the eclipse due to clouds, so I fired up this song and the sun came out. The power of music can't be denied.
Oh man I love that song and band...so rally you didnt get to see the eclipse sumbitching clouds out here we only got a 50 % it was still cool I had only a 11 lens in my welding helmet so we didnt look long 14 lens is way better
