Unfortunately computers have taken over the comp job. They have no Empathy and are not forward thinking. All they know is what has been inputted. In many joints the pit has no leeway anymore.

Even the small town bar we ate at last night now has a hand held computer to enter the order instead of a order book...............

The day will come some day in the future once AI goes mainstream that some ass hat will tell a computer to fix man made global warming and the machines will try to kill all the people since that's the only way to fix it.

No question comps have taken a hit. Casinos seem to be formulating a new model. If it isn’t directly profitable or they can’t justify it on the spot…it’s gone. Buffets, for one. A few have made it back but they are generally pretty pricey. Stations casinos and their $6.99 -$17.99 buffet are…gone. Kaput. No more. The spaces are already being redeveloped into other restaurants.

the big casinos in Vegas..their stock prices are at an all time high. By all time high, some are DOUBLE what they were pre pandemic!!

the locals casino in Vegas (Stations) closed 4 properties and only saw their overall revenue dip slightly. What did that tell them? Locals will travel to their other properties to gamble. Why open the other properties back up? They remain closed some 17 months later.

Casino business side is transforming. No question. Bean counter world.

Even sports is being taken over by the analytics, bean counter approach.

Look at baseball and how many times pitching change decisions seem to make no sense. It’s all analytics. No feel. No gut instinct. It’s a simple math equation that makes the decision.

Case in point, NFL this past week. Philly trails the Bucs 28-14 in the 4th Q. They score a touchdown. 28-20. Common sense says kick the XP and make it 28-21, get the ball back and tie it up 28-28.

Nope. They go for 2 points to make it 28-22. Apparently the “odds” favor going for 2 points as missing it twice is not likely.

there is no question , math is the god in all decision making....even craps, the math folks dominate decisions/bets you SHOULD make...it gives you the best odds for winning.......me, I think the math is important but I don't base my betting decisions 100% on the math......I will frequently go by my gut...the little voicesds in my head....streaks........haven't seen a number in a long time......hunches.......superstitions.......trends.........all that non-math stuff..........

It's funny that the math can tell you the best bets to make and that it is all random....but it is rare people play the way the math dictates.......and even if they did....the math says you will lose..........it's kinda funny actually....

Yes math is always the answer in business...Bookie gods add 7 to 22 makes 29 Tampa no cover and casino makes millions easy peasy :)...of course if I had Philly +7 Brady takes them down to a field goal  :)

Though it pains me I agree with Basic. We have seen several cycles of Covid-caused restrictions on behavior relaxed then reinstated over the past couple of years. The floodgates were opened this last time, and now it looks like we are trying to put the water that was released back behind the dam, with the foreseeable lack of success. IMHO many people, maybe even the majority, are fed up with all work and no play, hence a "damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead" attitude. No wonder the gaming business is booming (though it sure didn't look like it was booming very loudly at the wide spot in the road called Jackpot, NV*). Given what I feel is a very real possibility of another Covid surge I would not plan to heavily on holding stock in Vegas casinos for very long.

*More on the anecdote about the 2K odds bettor. He stated the main purpose of his visit was to cash in a winning sports bet. However, the sports book was not going to be open that day because the person scheduled to staff it had called in sick, so when he left he said he was headed to Wells, hoping to find a sports book open there.

Reminds me of a report on the old newsgroup about a cruise to nowhere. The reporter was one of many players who collectively had literally broken the bank. I forget now exactly how the cruise company handled that situation, but in the end it went belly up and the reporter never got paid. To permute a platitude I 've heard at a table from time to time, "The less you bet the more you save when you win."

We meet again on this road, Comrade. The math does not say you will lose; it does say you are expected to lose.

I do agree that people rarely play the way the math dictates. In fact, the mere fact that they are playing proves that they are not playing as the math dictates...unless their unit(s) of measure include(s) non-monetary elements.

Right now, anyone who went long casino stocks last year is already sitting on upwards of 10x money.

Another Covid surge is possible. I’ve long said the mask mandate has had no discernible affect on cases. In Nevada, it’s been up and down…mask mandate or not. Right now the chatter is the mask mandate will be lifted by Nov 1 or mid November.

It will be difficult to put the genie back in the bottle as it relates to Station Casinos dumping the buffet from every single property. 3 entire properties still closed. 1 sold (Palms). 1 new one expected to break ground in a couple months. Durango Station. The closed properties are like ghost towns. Relics just sitting there with tumbleweeds crossing the parking lot. The electronic billboards still work…telling customers to visit one of the other properties.

The buffets are already being redeveloped.

imo, the buffet was a BIG draw for locals. They loved their comped or cheap buffets. Whether or not this decision was a mistake will be determined later. Right now…win for the casino. Loss leaders are going bye bye.

In any event, what is happening could go full circle. Who knows. I’ve long stopped guessing about this industry and the decisions they make.

the post pandemic world has convinced me Im far from being an addicted gambler.
as much as I miss the craps table or bubbles and the action and adrenalin flow......it was the entire experience of travel, dining, honky tonk, site seeing, new people, new places...

I got a little discouraged this last roadtrip.

prices for hotels were off the wall insane.

casinos basically didnt care about loyalty.

There was so little food services in most casinos, and whereever we went to dine EVERYPLACE seemed to be understaffed so it took a little out of the dining experience overall.

everywhere seemed to have fees, and fees have gone up. shopping, all prices were up, and now they are sky rocketing.

I cancelled my trip to parx in a couple of weeks. fuck it.

That’s you when you were young isn’t it. No, it would be true to say that I’ve lost my fair share of times, maybe more than that. Sometimes I lost because things didn’t go my way, and sometimes things went my way but I found a way to f’k It up anyway. That’s gambling, if you knew what your high point was going to be, then you should never lose. There’s no way to know, until the damage is done. All of this being said, I’ll bet my % of winning trips, is better than anybody on the forum, if the truth could be known. This includes fat guys, that wrote books. :)

I’ve never done 21, but my average is right at 6 wins to 1 loss. I just do day trips, so the money is not real big. About +$300 per trip average. I also have all of the money that I do not lose, plus my sanity, unlike FredP.
