Do you remember your first time? I don't mean in the back seat or the front seat. Your first time at the rail of a bank craps table? I was twenty and in Vegas for first time, during Christmas. Never saw a casino or a craps game. I knew blackjack, so I tried to play that, but would get carded right away, so I started playing slots, but got attracted to craps pit by lots of yelling and such. I watched for awhile, and none of it made sense, but I noticed some players betting on the biggest spot on the table (field). Then I noticed that they appeared to be winning, cause the dealer matched their pile of chips. I had no clue about buying in, so I threw some cash on the field. Dealer yelled, "money plays" and just like that I won $5. A lot of money back then. I parlayed the win and won again! $20! I was hooked for life. This seemed so easy I left the $20 out there. That's when the box asked me fo ID, which ended my first game of craps. Not deterred, I walked the strip playing craps until I got carded, then on to the next joint. I noticed a pattern developing, that only when I was winning, I would get carded. One table where almost every bet I lost, It was maybe twenty minutes before I got carded. So I developed the hit and run craps strategy without even knowing it. I remember being on information overload trying to absorb and make sense of this whirling dervish of a game I was caught up in. It was like being on another planet, like entering the twilight zone. It was a thrill ride. As B.B. King would say, "The thrill is gone." But I keep going back, nonetheless, like being stuck in a bad marriage.
