In terms of constitutionality, I believe, surprisingly, that the proper conclusion was drawn. Apart from that, is this ruling good or bad for the country as a whole?

IMO, the individuals who set point spreads/odds in Nevada sports books are generally very good at what they do.

According to at least one of the numerous articles I have read the past few days, Nevada sports books have not had a losing month since 2013. The article below states November 2017 was the 52nd consecutive month of Nevada sports books winning more than paying out. July 2013 is the last overall negative month for Nevada sports books and there were no NFL, NCAAF, NBA, NHL games that month, nor Olympic events, Indy/Daytona 500 or Triple Crown race. What a boring month for sports betting. The oddsmakers probably fell asleep.

That leaves baseball, which in my opinion, is way too fickle to bet. Best teams .600 worst teams 400. And it seems to have become a very boring game. Batters have to take their damned gloves off, and put them back on, every damned pitch. :confused:Pitchers that have to rub a new ball for 10 minutes each. :confused:Strike zone is a little inconsistent too. Really hard to find a good hot dog these days too, what happened to hot dogs? Not a game I care to bet money on. :cool:Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz...........

It's bad for the country. It's an addiction which is not only unhealthy but destroys families, minds, and a culture.

A couple decades ago -- I tried and failed to find the year -- an initiative which would have allowed a casino to be opened in Boise failed to pass after generating a very active campaign against it. More recently Les Bois Park, a Boise -- well technically, Garden City -- horse racing track had to close when its instant horse racing machines were ruled to be disguised slot machines. I therefore have serious doubts that Idaho, with its heavy Mormon influence, will ever, never mind in five years, legalize any form of gambling. (OK, the Native American casinos in the state may be an exception.)
So is alcoholism, but we (U.S.A.) found out that banning alcohol didn't work. Where there is demand, there will be supply. Better to attempt to control the quality of that supply than to try (and fail IMHO) to get rid of it.

Most of the activity for this round of riverboat gambling expansion occurred in the early 90s. Perhaps the ballot initiative below is what you had remembered.

The year sounds about right so my memory failed me ; I was looking for an initiative that failed, but now that you mention it I do remember this being a "yes means no" vote. Much obliged, Sahib.

The odds for a given baseball game can change significantly based upon the projected starting pitchers.

State of Illinois hasn't figured out how to squeeze every last penny out of sports betting, so it might be a while before Rivers Casino gets a sports book.

I think the legislators are probably mulling over a property tax on sports books based upon the square footage, number of TVs, hotness of the beverage servers, and the like.

Borgata (Atlantic City, NJ) and MGM National Harbor (Oxon Hill, MD) will continue to do well, regardless of sports betting. With MGM's pending purchase of Empire City Casino in Yonkers (NY) and the near-term opening of MGM Springfield (MA) -- expected August 24, 2018 -- the company is very well positioned in several key markets of on the east coast. Caesars Entertainment (CET) needs to get its act together. It was shut out in Massachusetts and now doesn't have a casino close enough to New York City or Washington, DC (really the wealthy counties in VA & MD around/near the Nation's Capital) to effectively compete against MGM in that area. CET also currently doesn't have a casino in Macau. What could really help CET (really any non-IGRA gaming company) is getting approval to build a casino in/near Atlanta, Dallas Fort Worth / Houston, and/or SF Bay Area / Los Angeles.

I'm more optimistic about the prospects of Atlantic City now that a significant culling of the weaker casinos has occurred. The Supreme Court's decision in striking down PASPA and New Jersey's quick action to authorize sports betting will definitely help in the short term. Tropicana AC is currently owned by Tropicana Entertainment, Inc. (led by Carl Icahn), which is being acquired by El Dorado Resorts. The transaction is expected to close in late 2018. The remaining casinos have owners that operate a significant number of casinos in numerous markets, including MGM Resorts International (Borgata), Caesars Entertainment (Caesars, Bally's, Harrah's), and Landry's (Golden Nugget AC). The exceptions are Resorts Casino Hotel and Ocean Resort Casino (former Revel), which is slated to open June 28 -- the same day newly-renovated Hard Rock AC (former Taj Mahal) is scheduled to open. Ocean Resort Casino was purchased for a mere $200M by a Denver-based real estate developer. Recall Revel cost @$2.6B to build and when it opened in 2012, it had debt service on $2.4B at a time the economy wasn't nearly as good as it is today. Debt service (specific to the casino) will likely not be as big an issue this go round. The casino & hotel at Resorts is being managed by Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority, which operates Mohegan Sun in Connecticut. If there is an AC casino that might fail in the near term, I'm guessing it's this one (Resorts). From a location and player's card standpoint, it's at a disadvantage to the other casinos, other than perhaps Ocean Resort Casino's player reward program. But that facility (Ocean Resorts Casino) is essentially new & redesigned after the most recent sale. I would not be surprised if another national/regional gaming company buys (or partners with) that property just to open a sports book on the east coast.

World casino is great. I like the square footage and total table game stats. Allows for easy comparison.

The state maps are a good starting point for finding casinos in the area. In the past, World Casino didn't always update the maps in a timely manner -- perhaps they had used the same crew that currently works on the Aruze gaming locator -- but that seems to have improved of late.
