I was watching a guy with a live stream today....don't know how many people are there, 100 thousand, 200 thousand? mostly looked like middle aged, few had masks on.
this might be a test for America.
if there isn't a spike all over the closest states to south Dakota, over the next month or so, I guess the mask thing is bullshit.
especially since the bulk of participants over in Sturgis are up there in age. Well, maybe only 120 thousand of them are 60 or above.
churches and gyms cannot open anywhere, but a quarter of a million bikers can avoid covid because they ignore it?
gotta admit, its tough to understand....(gov of south Dakota, isn't it south Dakota, or north? anway) they are not giving up the 2-3 weeks that brings in a years worth of revenue and taxes....and breakouts probably wont happen in south Dakota, its when everyone goes home,

It won't be quite that easy to track and trace, because they really do come from all over the country. But it should bear some useful data nonetheless. ("Hey, you got the crud, where you been, lately?")

It's not so much the riding around outside on motorcycles, but all the time they spend crammed together in bars and restaurants. Hopefully the attendees took some stock in their personal health situation when deciding to go.

I lived in Daytona for 20 years. They have 2 rallies a year - one in the spring, and one in the fall. I've been to my share. I wouldn't cross the street to go to a rally. Contrary to popular opinion, a motorcycle rally is a terrible place to ride a motorcycle. I was on my chopper one year, waiting at the light to cross the Broadway Bridge, probably called the Speedway Bridge these days. The guy next to me - who had his girl on the back and I didn't know from a bag o' elbows - hollered, "We're on our way to get the truck, we're way too drunk to ride." Yeah, I'll feel so much safer once this imbecile is i his truck.

Different strokes, I reckon, but it seems to me once you've seen one rally... Some of these folks come to Daytona every year and have been doing so for decades.

The economy in Daytona is dependent on the rallies to a lesser extent than Sturgis, but still plenty dependent. The pulse of the town is also bike week conscience. Anytime after the first of the year you start hearing people say they're gonna do it "after bike week," even if their world is completely independent of bike week. You'll also hear locals occasionally say something like that, "had to be two or three bike weeks ago." I've often said of Daytona that it's half populated by people who came for bike week and didn't have enough gas money to leave.

Was in Wall Drug last month in SD. It was wall to wall people, mostly with out masks There were people from all over the country and some from other countries. This go's on all day everyday with thousands passing thru there a week. Never heard it mentioned as a possible contagion source. The numbers at Sturgis have nothing on Wall Drug.

a long time ago, me and my wife decided to pick a florida spot weve never visited with our children, so we decided on Daytona. a week after we made reservations, the hotel called me and talked me out of staying there during that week, college break, spring break week. He told me Daytona was the last place I wanted to be in florida with my kids that week.
We ended up in ft Lauderdale, wasn't much better.

I experienced a motor cycle rally/gathering one year many moons ago in lake George NY. we were so miserable when we learned that day as we arrived there was a motorcycle festival, or whatever they called it. what did we know, we figured a bunch of drunken fucked up gangs or morons and idiots, and we almost cancelled.
turned out, wherever we went , the bike guys were polite, even moved bikes so we could park one night with the kids to go into a restaurant, always courteous, was kinda strange.
there were plenty of drunks, but lake George always has plenty of drunks walking around at night. no one bothered us.

    Hey Long Island Man-

Ain’t no Covid here. Nobody’s wearing masks except the bad guys.

You are missing a great time here in Sturgis. Biker chicks everywhere. Ran into a few of them from Ozone Park who were asking about you when I mentioned the forum. Even the Duck has gotten laid. My ass is still pretty sore from that long ride from Ohio. The Lid and Eustace got elected honorary king and queen of Sturgis 2020. Scored some front row seats for Tuesday’s Trump rally. Look for me and the Duck on tv. We will be wearing red MAGA hats.

Gotta go now. The dice are hot. Getting a tattoo tomorrow to commemorate this event. Scratch it off of the Bucket List. Say HI to the guys for me.

    Love, Inside

I was a howard beach boy myself, but enjoyed the occasional back seat romance with those girls from south OZ park.

we went for ices before, they wouldn't wait of guy in front of us, he didn't have a mask on, yet they were serving people thru an outdoor window....after a little discussion, they decided to serve him, he pulled a mask out of his pocket to show them he had one, but felt to stand outside and order he didn't need to wear it. but the putz held up everyone else in line,
I hate fucking masks. maybe when its cold Ill enjoy them.

Can't speak for the whole country but you'll never find a better people than the biker groups around here. They spend most of their time escorting veterans to their final resting place, doing fundraisers for people who have illnesses or accidents that insurance won't cover etc. etc.

Very few are like the Hell's Angels or Monguls that the media portrays all bikers are like.

    This is Barney

The LID and Eustace are in Sturgis by the way and were crowned as the King and Queen. The LID said he didn't know who the mouse personage was but he sure liked to talk to anyone about the Browns.
