I am by no means an accomplished poker player, but as Kenny Rogers noted, "You have to know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em." Every top poker player knows the odds against drawing a certain (needed) card given the current situation. More importantly, IMO, they're extremely good at reading other players while at the same time making it difficult for others to get an accurate read on them. Even if a player is dealt a royal flush, there is skill to betting so that the other players continue to make wagers. Who wants to win just the ante when holding the top hand (assuming no wildcards)?
