I'm going to stick with using Proceeds. Intangibles, if any, are already reflected in the transaction price. There would have to be a triggering event down the road affecting "goodwill" before an adjustment might be required. However, if there was such an triggering event on the day the transaction is supposed to close, either there would be a price adjustment agreed to by the parties, the transaction wouldn't close under the current terms, or someone would soon be looking for a new job and/or a good attorney.

That sentiment is echoed by me also.

Years ago on the old usenet craps forum, He would often correct my flawed thoughts on some probability exercise, but he was never condescending, and would explain his rebuttal in a way that even I could understand.

I learned a lot from some of the guys from that forum, but the learning from Midnight was less painful than some of the others I could mention. :)

What is the min bet I can use on a $5 min table when betting on Buy 4 or 10?

It depends on the minimum vig that the casino charges. If it is a $1, then it would not make sense to buy it for a $5 bet since the payout would be the same as a place bet. If they will let you buy it for $10 you would be a $1 better than a straight place bet. (vig paid on wins only)

I believe there still may be a few casinos that use half dollars for buy bet breakage, in that case, any buy bet on 10-4 would be better than a place bet. (again, vig paid on wins only)

With the exception of Casino Queen (East St. Louis, IL), $20 is the minimum amount you should Buy the 4/10. The vig is 5% of the Buy 4/10 bet, but at least $1. In theory you could make a Buy 4/10 bet for $10 and collect $19 ($10 x 2 - 1 vig) on a win, but most casinos won't book a Buy 4/10 bet for less than $20 in part because a $1 chip is the smallest denomination at the table. Also, the casino wants higher action (at risk) in exchange for a more generous potential payout.

The exception to the rule is Casino Queen, which has $0.50 chips at the craps tables and the dealers will *automatically* Buy the 4/10 at $10 and up.

Huge difference. The big six and eight betting area is a preferred landing spot for a DI and the chances that chips will be in the way is slim.

That is very true it helps to get all of your answers from a book that we recognize as a well-rounded book where they are not trying to sell you on becoming a so-called DI.

The buy on the 4/10 is always.....the buy on the 6/8 is never..,,,,the buy on the 5/9 is , sometimes.

I go into the buy bets in my book.

Placing the five or nine for $20 would lose $20 six times and win $28 four times, giving the house $120 - $112 = $8. A $20 Buy would put up $21 to net $29 -- giving the house $126 - $116 = $10. At $20, Place bets are accordingly preferable. A $25 Place bet would give the house $150 - $140 = $10, while a $24 Buy would put up $25 to net $35 -- also giving the house $150 - $140 = $10. Buys of $26 through $38 would earn the house proportionately less and consequently be superior to their Place counterparts. There are also bets over $40 where Buying beats Placing.

Sorry OAP, but the first crude comment that came to me was , he couldn't possibly make things THAT simple, could he?

I think you know this is said in jest. ;)

Buying the nine is always superior to placing the 9 at $20. If you are an idiot and pay vig up front: a) you are playing in the wrong casino. b) You will still get $30 for that $20 nine, you do NOT pay vig twice!

Good to hear things are on the upswing.

This is a good forum -- the best of its kind IMO -- and it's the diverse viewpoints & backgrounds of the members (along with Jacob's "hands-off" policy) that help make it so. The more people who actively participate and share their insights here, the more information that is available for review (and possibly use) by those who visit this forum. Kind of like dining at a buffet -- having more choices is better overall, just be selective and eat the prime rib & King Crab legs and forsake the rolls, kale and fruit salad.

BTW, on occasion I have used a modified version ($5-$50-$200-$2,000 & down) of the $5-$50-$500-$5,000 & down Hard 6/8 play you had mentioned. Haven't managed to have the bet lined up and hit a 3rd consecutive hardway yet, but perhaps someday it will happen.
