I’m a noob, but won’t always be a beginner, and I’ve worn out my introduction initial thread, so I’ll put my learning outings in here, like a journal. Feel free to comment, give advice, make jokes, whatever! I’m having fun learning!

Did a few marathon sessions in Las Vegas (the Aria) at a conference, drunk, tired, and stupid, was down $300 for the trip, really not that bad considering the fun I had. Then I came her, decided to stop drinking, playing seriously for shorter periods of time. I will post each trip.

Today is Saturday and I took RR’s advice and went to Rivers early, but not early enough to catch a spot at any of the three $5 tables that were working. I got on the 4th to open at $10, bought in for $300, and played for an hour and was the last $10 shooter before it went to $15, then colored up. I think you guys are right, 1 to 1 1/2 hours is just about perfect, and it is all much clearer when I’m drinking water or coffee. :D

I ended up positive $160! I was following my strategy exactly, pass and come for a couple wins, then come for a third number and pocket all winnings keeping 3 numbers working until shooter 7’s out. Keptdropping quarters in my pocket as I saw profits over my initial $300, never to come out again, and had five in my pocket when I left thetable with $460.

I’m going to try to ride my motorcycle over there most Saturday mornings early, this is a much better time than playing every 3-4 years in long, marathon sessions, drunk, confused, and stupid. o_O

monday, May 13, went to Rivers in Des Plaines, IL from 4:45-6:15 pm. Started with $300 at a $10 table, played pass and come bets, $10plus $10 odds, betting $1 all the hard ways to tip the dealers.

After 90 minutes, left table with $625! So with my $160 win last Saturday, I’m up cumulative, $485 for about 3 hours of play at Rivers.

    Learning and having fun!

Nothing wrong with that. I played there a couple of times one with RR. He is a good guy and I enjoyed being at the table with him. Harrahs in Joliet is a decent place as well.

Being in Chicago, I'll have to respectfully disagree with you on the pizza! :)

I’ll concede on the bagel, however.

yeah, that's what rr said, he likes Chicago pizza over NY pizza. I told him he just went to the wrong place.

it was a bit different, walking inot giordanos and ordering a deep dish, and the waitress tells us, you know its a 45 minute to 1 hour wait,
she must have said to herself, uh, these new Yorkers, why do they need to come here and take up my table for 2 hours to try a deep dish, just order it to go
    I tipped her well.

Thanks Ed. I enjoyed playing craps with you several times. One of these days I'll head down to Harrah's Metropolis -- probably during the "dry" season so there's a better chance the casino is open, lol.

If anyone travels down to Southern Illinois, you should let Edward-ky know and get together to play craps at Harrah's Metropolis. He's a good guy, as are Liman and Kokomojoe4. If I will be in the area where they live, time permitting I'll definitely let them know in advance and hopefully we'll be able to shoot dice & enjoy a decent meal.

Come out to the east coast? We made a quick trip to Virginia last month while you were on the wrong side of the Potomac River (in Maryland). Even stopped by MGM National Harbor for a quick craps session.

My wife and I last visited New York City for a few days in February 2016. We enjoyed very good thin slice pizza from a few local establishments while there. As for bagels, never really cared for them. Much prefer a good doughnut or chocolate chip muffin. But I will definitely take you up on a good corned beef sandwich. Just waiting for Wynn Boston Harbor (whatever it's new name will be) to open so I can cross off @5 casinos from the chip collection list.

I’ve been working here for 8 years, back & forth to Philly. I’m here for the foreseeable future.

Thanks for the cycle article. Wishing it was a little warmer, but soon I’ll be wishing it was cooler, I’m sure!

Thanks for mentioning that one. The wife wants to go back to Cape Girardeau and I see Harrah's Met is only an hour and 15 minutes away.

Yeah they aren’t too far apart. Cape is quite a bit bigger. They have only the crapless and interblock machine. Harrahs has 2 12ft tables and both ATS and fire bets. Harrahs doesn’t have the food options like cape does.

Well, played again tonight, Wednesday, 5/15/19, I think I’m hooked. :)

Rivers again, $10 table, fairly full, unfortunately I had the table dickhead immediately to my left. I know you don’t ask for chips when a point is established (been reading up on table etiquette). So I’m standing quietly watching, and he says, “Hey, wait for the point!” To which I replied, “I know, just watching.” He keeps telling me to wait every time the guy shoots, which is a little annoying.

After I’m in the game, he keeps a) giving me advice, or b) critiquing what I’m doing, I grit my teeth. My base dealer is a sweetie and helping me with questions, and at one point, I wanted to know what would happen to a particular bet if a seven came up, but having read my etiquette, I realize I should not say that number, but call it “red”, which I did in my question. He pipes up, “ Never say that number!” To which I replied, “I know that, which is why I called it RED. Listen, I’m getting great advice from Yolanda, if I want advice from you, I’ll ask for it, OK?” He finally shut up for the most part, but still grumbled under my breath at some of my moves. Then his dad gets the dice, and literally, throws the dice off the table every other roll, and I am not exaggerating. The boxman and dealers were rolling their eyes, the players were having fits at the delays, it was a shit show.

Anyway, started with $285, ended up with $250, so down $35 tonight. I played a little stupidly, doing $45 worth of ATS after it hit, wasted that. Was bumping my odds just before a seven on a long roll, but still, had fun. Still up cumulative $450 in 3 sessions. Life is good!

I learned they charge for drinks there, I was spoiled by Aria in Vegas. Just had one, though. I need to read this before every session for a while. A few hard ways every once in a while are fun, but I gotta stay off the carnival bets. I need to read this before each session.

    Sounds like you're learning quick.

    Have fun!

May be the best thing that could have happened to you was losing that bet. It's easy to get hooked on them if you get lucky and catch some positive variance on the carnival bets.

I stumbled on this article, which BTW might also be applicable to the "Opposite sides = 7" thread. Al Krigman was a no-nonsense author who told it like it is without grinding any axes, unlike most authors who are trying to tell their readers "the best way to play".

I think you are right! I just looked up the odds on those, 18.30% for the Small/Tall and 20.81% for the All bet! Had I not done them I would have been a $10 winner last night, those are truly awful!

I created an Excel log I'm going to post after each session. Yes, I'm a little anal retentive. :)

[IMG]OK, clearly, I need to root around and see how to post pictures. Sorry about this.[IMG]

Success! Thanks for the article link, MS! Excellent read.

You're not the only one for I also keep track of my wins and losses, though in a simple text file. Not only do I think it wise just as a reality check, but also for tax purposes should you catch a bonanza. In that latter case you will need more info (e.g. casino and dealers names) to offset any W2-G's with losses. Of course after you achieve the DI expertise some of our members reputably have these additional requirements will become moot as you will have no losses.
My pleasure. There's a wealth of information on the internet; it's all a matter of knowing how to find it...and how to filter out the misinformation.
