Tough situation. Market really getting hammered. Generally the markets can withstand bad news...and move on next day. Not in this case. Fear of the unknown is driving the market selling right now. I'm looking at GILD right now for a vaccine. If someone gets their first....my wager is on them. They are working on a vaccine and I think trials start March 1. The other stock not getting beat up is NFLX (people are staying home). Other than sex....they watch TV. Subscribers should increase. LOL.

As far as I know...Chinese travel is basically banned coming here. I have to assume this is hitting the Vegas Strip. Red Rock was actually busy today. Off strip locals isn't much of an issue. Asian travel to Vegas is an issue and its having an effect, IMO.
I don't trust anything coming out of China either from their state run information arm. No social media, no independent confirmation. The secrecy is all well and fine for them until something like this hits and demands immediate transparency. I don't think we got that. Now...it's too late. It probably could have been better contained from the getgo had they been transparent from the first case.

Local casinos in Vegas seemed to be as busy or busier than normal today. Strip was busier but still below the normal Thursday traffic.

Orleans and Boulder Station were real busy. Sams Town was normal traffic and their craps table was $5 today. $3 table must be mon-wed.

We went to the Strat today for the first time in many years and they hands down win the most improved award. Casino is now bright, open floor plan and clean. Much better than the dungeon they used to be. Won $850 on a bubble there, which always helps too.

Ahead a little for the trip so far. Sluts have sucked this trip but $200 a day is my loss limit on sluts.

Unless the human version is much stronger than the coronavirus that's common in livestock, I think the hype is going to cause more damage than the disease.

Have you been watching the TV news about the coronavirus not-quite-yet-a-pandemic? Normally, I only watch TV news when I'm drunkblogging a debate or an election, but I'm at CPAC this week, and the TV news is impossible to avoid here in the work-suite I'm sharing during the stay with my Townhall compadres. If you've had better luck at avoiding the TV news than I have in recent days, let me sum up their coronavirus coverage for you.

OH MY GOD TRUMP IS GOING TO KILL US ALL

The media doesn't think you're gullible enough to believe that Donald Trump is America's Patient Zero and that he will personally sneeze on you just out of spite. Rather, the media line is that Trump's hamfisted incompetence (always on display; never actually seen) will prevent an effective response to the crisis.

The pundits are having difficulty settling on a historical analogy for the COVID-19 coronavirus. Will the spread of the disease be President Trump's Katrina or his financial crisis? Will it be similar to the H1N1 avian flu pandemic in 2009 or will it be politicized like the Ebola outbreak in 2014?

Comparisons are tough. After all, the situation is unprecedented. The political consequences of COVID-19 are difficult to predict because of the interplay between a public health emergency and a fractured public narrative. Coronavirus is the first postmodern pandemic.

It has the makings of a phenomenon not seen in a century. The Spanish Flu of 1918 infected an estimated one-third of the global population. It had a case fatality rate greater than 2.5 percent—slightly higher than the rate for coronavirus observed in China so far. More than 600,000 people died in the United States of "La Grippe." No one wants to see these numbers repeated......

The White House on Monday sent lawmakers a request for $2.5 billion to address the deadly outbreak. But Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., wants $8.5 billion in emergency funding to fight the coronavirus.

"But what is that number based on?" Rubio said.

"Well, how do we know that? Maybe we need more. Maybe we need less. What it's based on is 'whatever [President Donald] Trump asks for, we're going to ask for three times more, so we can appear to care more about it than he does.'

"I think, on this issue, we shouldn't be playing politics."

Now let me tell you the part of this story they "conveniently" left out. This patient was from Solano county CA. What sits right in the middle of Solano county CA? I'll tell you what, Travis AFB, one of the places that has or had, quarantined people , from that cruse ship. But in this article, not one word to that effect. I have a theory on this one. Your news agency, is NOT giving you the full story.

Duck, where are you getting the above not-quite-accurate information?

First, there is no Moreno County in California.

Second, the patient with COVICD-19 of unknown origin is reportedly from Solano County, CA. Not the non-existent Moreno County, CA.

Third, Travis AFB is located in Solano County, CA. Again, not the non-existent Moreno County, CA.

Fourth, if media reports about CDC.other personnel not taking protective measures when meeting the disembarked US passengers from Diamond Princess are accurate, things could get really ugly.

IMHO, one of the biggest problems with COVID-19 might be the primary symptoms are fairly common, especially during cold/flu season, leading to inaccurate/delayed assessment.

Per US Center for Disease Control (CDC):

The person was from Solano county Ca, I misquoted it. I believe this case is somrhow related to Travis AFB. May not be from one of the quarantined, but flights from Travis go to Japan, South Korea, Thailand, etc. along with the personnel that operate those flights. I'll bet there is a connection. There are also reports that those government workers that interacted with the quarantined groups, were not properly outfitted, or trained for such an operation.

not sure why the democratic party is blaming trump for all of this, like he started it all.
politics, especially the democratic party , those fucking fear mongerers...anything to attack trump. I don't think trump is a bad guy, perhaps not my choice, but assembling the best team on earth to combat this virus, theres not much more he can do, he has to let the experts get to work and make a vaccine.
last night one of the news channels mentioned Israel is expected to have a vaccine within 2 weeks?

It's the only card they have left to play. I told my wife over a year ago to not put it past the Dem's to crash the economy and blame it on Trump. It worked for them in 2008.

Correct. I was stationed there on and off for 3 years.

One thing to consider is LA is the biggest import export hub in the world. If LA is locked down it will have a very negative reaction worldwide.
