OK so not really a build day per se, but I have been looking at my table as I’ve been making the templates for the rails and as I look at it something just isn’t looking right on the back wall. It just doesn’t look like the photos I see on line or the tables at my local. I continued looking at it, comparing my photos to other professional modern day casino tables, photos I took over at Hollywood etc. Then it occurred to me. My boxman’s wall looks to tall. So I compared some photos closer, took a photo of my table at or close to the same angle as other photos and it was obvious mine was in fact too tall. I actually counted the rows of diamond shapes on the bumper as well and mine was well above the top row, but other modern 12ft tables it was around row 6 to 7. Also I have a buddy that actually bought a table from the Desert Inn in Vegas years ago and asked him to measure from the top of the table/felt to the top of the trim cap at the wall where the boxman sits and my was 2” to tall. I emailed the guy I talked to yesterday where I purchased my new felt from and he confirmed the height my buddy gave me. So I disassembled my table, tool the entire back wall apart, and then used my table saw to cut the wall down so that when I add the trim cap to the boxman’s wall, it will be exactly the height of the other two I inquired about! See also the addition of a trim piece I made that helps mask the board edges where the pieces meet. I think it adds a bit of a classier look to the table, and works well with the columns I added to the base legs. Overall I think the table looks much better and more correct to the tables I see at my local.

Build Day 14 Photo Set #1

Decided to get started on the rails, trim on the top of the table and will work on the drink shelf later. I got the boxman’s wall cut down yesterday and cut and fit the walnut trim cap for the top of the boxman’s wall, cut and fit the walnut trim cap for the top of the stickman’s wall. Also made the template for the work sub chip rail and arm rest support. I will work a lot more on the table over the Friday and over the weekend!

I think I made a lot of progress on the rail setup today! I started off cutting the remaining rail base pieces and test fitting them to the table walls. I then started drilling each pieces and inserted the threaded Inserts, drilling the rail support for the bolt to fit, and attached with flat head bolts. The entire rail base is now attached and is very solid!!! I will start working on the chip rails and the remaining pieces needed to add the foam and vinyl wrap. I’m starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel! Also my FIRE BET felt showed up today! I also received the Fire Bet ceramic marks and the clear acrylic spacers!

take Build Day 16 – Photo Set #1

Well I started working on the table this morning and it hit me like a ton of bricks. My rail base I worked on and completed yesterday was the wrong thickness wood. I can’t believe I did that! I accidently cut the ¾” thick wood for the rail base out of the wood I was going to use for the drink shelf. So I stared off disassembling the rails base and re-measured and recut the rail base out of ½”. I made it a bit different, instead of having a line in the middle of the end wall. I cut a complete u shaped piece for the end and added a smaller straight piece for the wall by the stickman. I will eventually glue these two pieces together so that my vinyl wrap can be a complete piece with no seams. I also cracked one of the mirrors today when I went to grab my tape measure and I knocked it off the rail. That was just enough to make the mirror fall over and crack on the tape measure. But I have an extra one and will cut it tomorrow, but I’m put the mirrors away and not have them on the table while I’m still working on it. I was able to get the walnut boards cut and the groove for the rail trim made. My walnut was almost 2” thick so I had to rip the board on end to get them down to 1 ¼” for the rails. I have a planner but I figured it would take a long time to do 6 boards and tack 3/4” off. I setup my router on a table top mount, and will start cutting my chip rails tomorrow!!!! I had a great day over all and yes I tossed dice for about 2 hours tonight while I watched the NASCAR race!
