Thanks Ben the Photos were a big help and I might redesign part of my table base/legs I am putting together!

Build Day 6 Photo Set #1:

Well today I had to work at my client longer than I expected, so I didn’t get as much done after work as I wanted to. But the end wall I glued up yesterday came out great!!! It’s perfectly square to the table top and itself! I decided for the one I was gluing up tonight to use a bit of extra blocking under the bottom table top layer. This I found really made the whole unit sturdy while setting up for glue and made the bottom perfectly snug against the table radiuses. The painters tape worked great, no glue on the table surface, and no accidental gluing of the sides to the table top! I also was lucky to have UPS show up with my new chips, chip holder, foam, and money slot and money plunger! I wanted to match my new chips for my craps table as close as possible to those at my local Hollywood. After doing my research I found what I think feels and sounds just like them! I had several Hollywood chips, $1, $5 and $25 and mixed them up with the new ones. I put them in a paper bag so I couldn’t see the chips and then tried to pick out the new chips vs the Hollywood chips. I couldn’t! The only thing that was noticeable after closely examining the two different chips was the Hollywood chips have a smoother decal in the center and if you pay attention you can pick this smoothness up when hold the two different chips. But I’m totally happy with what I got! So next will be on to the table base/legs!

How is the glue up coming along? Are you stretching the fabric already and looking for a good cocktail waitress?

petroplyph... Darn work is messing with my table building time! the glue up is 100% done for the table and most of the base/legs are complete! All the glue up came out better than I had even thought it would! I think taking my time and thinking it all through and test fitting everything was key! I am now working on building some templates and jigs to do the curved rails! The straight rails will be no problem. I am using Walnut and Oak for those! I think the contrast will look great! I'll get a few more photos up later this evening!

Build Day 7 Photo Set #1: OK made some great progress on the base/legs and sub table frame today! I used a kreg jig which is totally incredible and makes join corners crazy solid! You can see via the photos how the kreg jig works. I made a center middle support from each leg to help with over all stability. This whole frame work is totally rock solid! I used bed frame hardware to connect the middle brace to the inside of the legs and added a 2x6 support to attach it to. I works like a charm! I am going to add ridged cardboard round tubes to look like marble or granite columns; I will get marbles laminate or granite to cover them. I also got the inner frame put together and for demonstration purpose I just have it sitting on the middle brace/support until I get the hardware to mount it. It will be mounted flush with the top of the legs to make the table tops a great place to support and attach. There will be two smaller outer frames at each end to give support to the two ends! I will also be wrapping the entire base/legs in ¼” red oak and will finish it like the rest of the table. It will make the entire table so that it can be disassembled! I’m really getting excited as by tomorrow I will have the base/legs and the frame complete. This means I can set the table up everything but the drink rail and handrails.

obie1 - (guy). Also who will come are fiends, family, neighbors etc. Many friends and neighbors have shown great interest in my project, and many have commented that they hope I have a party focused around the craps game and are interested in learning how to play etc.! Sounds like a totally awesome time!

OK so today I can finally see the table taking shape! I build the inner frame that fits inside the two sets of legs, that will support the middle ¾ of the table. I still need to build the 1ft 1½ inch end frames that support the curved ends. I tried several different ways to hang the frame for quick assembly and disassembly. I ended up selecting L-brackets to support the inner frame, and the drilled a hole through the leg top and the inner frame for use of an 8in 3/8 bolt using a wing nut to tighten it. This will make for a one person setup! I went ahead and put the table tops on and added the felt and one end piece to see what it might start looking like. The table top is not centered on the table properly because I have not built the end frames yet. So it’s pushed forward just to get a quick look of what it will look like!

petroglyph - ALL last week I was working on a big server project for a client and it consumed all my time, 12-15 hrs. a day so I had no time to work on the table. But TODAY I will work on the table and most of the rest of the weekend!!! I will post later today and tomorrow progress!!!! I might even cheat and throw so DICE on the table later today!

BigBen - Your idea with your table was GREAT! and I'm going to implement it on my table as well! I am going to use 1/4" ridged foam on the left half of the table and 1/8" on the other half! This will give me the best option for matching real casino situations!!! ;)

    Build Day 9 – Photo Set #1

Good progress was made today, and it felt great getting back to this project! I test fit all side walls, end radius wall etc. I built the box man’s wall and small sides where the bank/chips are stored! That turned out great! Later I will make a locking wood/glass cover with two handles typical like a casinos closed craps table would look. I ran into a few stumbles that I need to figure out. One is the photo with the arrows. These are the lines where the ends of each section met. I don’t like them; they are noticeable and stand out. I think I might wrap this whole table in some type of laminate to make it look more presentable and look more finished. Not quite sure what to do as this is red oak ply as it is, so my other thought is to just draw them as tight as possible with a removable type bracket etc and just live with it. Not sure… Also I finished the structure of the base/legs and made the two extended end piece to hold up the radius end walls. This extremely sturdy and still a one person setup and tear down so far! I did decide to go with 4” PVC pipe for the columns vs the ridged cardboard tubes. I think this will give a better overall look and smoother finish. I can then paint or wrap the columns depending on what look I want.
