There are certain web-sites that will " custom " print a lay-out for your personal / home use -

Aside from THAT - ALL casinos either pay DOUBLE on BOTH -

OR TRIPLE on ONE or the OTHER -

    Sorry, Tom -

NO FREE LUNCH TODAY - NOR TOMORROW NOR ................. !

    Snake,

Check out Tom's opener in his Tough Craps thread. There are several casinos where the 4 and 10 are free, some possibly with no limit (other than table limit) on the buy.

If you are a 2V four and ten man (others are T & A men but to each his own), this would seem to be your cup of tea - an even game with numbers we all like to see made.

Incidently, at least one casino advertises the free field bet, so it can, at least at times, also be had.

Why would any casino do that, except possibly as a temporary come-on?
You're lucky to find ONE triple.

Yea it's a marketing ploy, used on occasion by at least a couple of places. Not sure how long it lasted, or when it last happened.

Imagine that, three fair bets on a craps table at one time: Field, 4 and 10.

The tough craps player wouldn't sleep for as long as this was in action. With enough players of only these bets, the math guys would construct a perfect Gaussian curve. Hopefully, some of us will be on the far right of the curve...

Place/Buy bets on the four and ten paying true odds - that is, win $2 for every one dollar bet. On a "normal" table, the 2:1 is paid on bets $20 and over, but 5% is "withheld" as vig, so it ain't free.

A Field bet paying normal even money on a roll of 3,4,9,10 or 11 and paying 3x the amount bet with a 2 or 12 also calculates to a " fair" bet, one with no house edge.

Playing such bets gives the player exactly a 50/50 chance of winning each and every such bet. This is no guarantee of a win, but it's as good as it can get, mathematically speaking.

Now, if we could only pick up our Pass line bet that did not get us an immediate winner, we could sell the farm, move into the casino, and eventually (and quickly) take over its ownership......

But if the table only pays 2x 2-12 - then what....

(okay - sorry - that is if we came across the dream table?)

With 2x payout on both 2 and 12, house edge on the bet is 5.55%. In rarer cases where 3x is paid on one of the two, HE goes down to 2.77%. In both cases, a far cry from a fair bet.

The answer to your above question, don't make the bet...

I think betting black or red on roulette has a lower house edge than a typical field bet. I've seen nothing in Vegas other than 2x on the 2 & 12.

Yes, I'm still on "this side of the ground", just haven't been involved with craps since I retired -- not much entertainment budget left.

This is not correct. The probability of winning these bets does not change; the payoffs change so that the expectation is zero. It's the same thing as "free odds" -- the probability of making a point does not change, but the payoff at true odds results in a zero ev. There's a big difference in variance between a 50/50 bet at even money and these bets with zero ev.

I have been hearing rumors for a year or so of 3X pays on 2 & 12 in the Field from a couple of places in New Mexico. I hadn't heard the "no-vig" Buy bets though. Methinks this will be a short lived promotion targeting brand new players or non-local gamblers.:D

I believe it was Peppermill that offered no-vig 4|10 buys in your bailiwick a couple decades ago.

No, that is not correct. Turtle Creek in Michigan has offered free buys on the 4 & 10 for at least a decade and, unlike at the (at least) 3 Albuquerque area casinos that currently offer it, "free buy" is prominently marked on the 4 & 10 boxes there. It is a permanent loss leader attraction. My experience over the years at turtle creek and my brief experience last week in new mexico indicates that players at these tables bet the 4 & 10 NO MORE THAN THEY OTHERWISE WOULD -- or at least not THAT much more -- and continue to obliviously bet their horns, hardways, etc...In short, the feature looks to be successful in attracting PLAYERS...

In contrast to that the free field (triple on both the 2 and 12) has been discontinued in all of the new mexico places I checked. I am speculating that this relatively intuitive, newbie friendly bet was attracting not only players but the bet itself was attracting too much MONEY and so, yes, the promotion was short lived...as recently as earlier this month it was apparently still available at the Santa Ana Star but they too have discontinued it.

So I am still looking for that elusive free field!!...HELP ANYONE? ...tom p
