Casino profits would drop like a rock if one of these was given to every gambler and they actually used it.

There is another less complicated option available.
You don't need stamps , envelopes , banks or
    a post office.
There is a better way anyway

In today’s world...you can simply take a picture of the check with a mobile app and it will get deposited. No stamp. No envelope. No mail.

True, but does that not have the same disadvantage a deposit-taking ATM has? These tools and techniques are designed for the player who lacks the discipline not to give back profits. The purpose of sending checks to yourself is to delay access to winnings (i.e. truly lock them up).

I stumbled on another "protect me from myself" technique from The Before Time, though it was given as a security measure. Being as I am not supplying any original text I have retained Usenet format where ">" indicates quoted text.

An excellent question. I'll answer with a story of my own...

A few years ago, my father won a Pan tournament at a local California casino ($10,000!!!). One of the first things he did was tip the floorman for a couple hundred, and donated a couple hundred to the dealers tip pool. This was to keep people from considering him a tight-wad who "deserves whatever he gets". Some of those places have a grapevine, so positive word of mouth curbs the chance that some down-on-his-luck employee decides to nail you.

The very next thing he did was march up to the cashier's window, and open a debit account. We made a big show of doing it, so that everybody saw we were holing the money somewhere safe.

A couple of weeks later, he had the casino mail him the check.
    Always a good idea...
