Proximity, availability of $5 tables and value are the 3 reasons that we stay Downtown in all of our trips to Las Vegas. You can safely travel to Main Street, Plaza, California, Golden Gate, Golden Nugget, Horseshoe, Four Queens, Fremont, Big D without getting off of the main drag. We've been going Downtown for 20 years and have never had a problem. I'm 67. We stay at The Cal now. They are very generous with their comps. Previously, we went to the Golden Nugget. They tightened up their comping and added those ridiculous resort fees. The Cal remodeled all of their rooms and casino a few years ago. We're headed there next week for 6 free nights. Given the choice of ANY Downtown room, I'd choose The Cal. Somebody on the forum suggested that I try the Grand, formerly Lady Luck. I'm going to check out their race book for Belmont day. There are no spacious race books Downtown.
